Ed McMahon was an American television personality, actor, and announcer. He was born on March 6, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away on June 23, 2009, in Los Angeles, California.
McMahon was mostly known for his role as Johnny Carson's sidekick and announcer on "The Tonight Show" from 1962 to 1992. He was famous for his catchphrase "Heeeere's Johnny!" when introducing Carson on the show.
Aside from his work on "The Tonight Show," McMahon also hosted various TV shows, including "Star Search," a talent competition show that aired from 1983 to 1995.
He began his career in broadcasting as a radio announcer and later transitioned to television. McMahon won numerous awards throughout his career, including a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a lifetime achievement award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
In addition to his television work, McMahon also had a successful run in the real estate business, particularly as the longtime spokesperson for the American Family Publishers sweepstakes.
